SAT Essay Question Format:

Usually, the essay assignment in the SAT is in following format:

Prompt:

The prompt contains the main idea around which the essay topic will revolve. It can be a quotation or an incident or a social issue.

Assignment:

This is a detailed question that contains instructions for attempting the essay.

Attempting the SAT essay question:

The essay forms a major portion of the SAT examination. It is best to prepare for an essay before appearing for SAT. Following general writing tips must be kept in mind while attempting a SAT essay question.
• Read the prompt very carefully to ensure that no idea or point is missed.
• Read the prompt at least once more after reading the assignment part. When it is read with the assigned task in mind, the relevant ideas from the prompt are automatically highlighted in the mind.
• Do not lose focus while writing. Stick to what has been asked. SAT essay must be kept to the point since there is a word limit to it.
• Follow the instructions strictly. The essay will be disqualified if basic instructions given are not followed.

Prompt:

Assignment:

Is happiness always associated with taking? Do needs guide our joy or can a person lacking some of the things he longs for be happy? Explain the beauty of longing for something and the will it gives to a person to move on and strive for it; living life to the fullest while doing so.

Prompt:

“Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.”

Assignment:

Is it important to please everyone? State the pleasure in being ourselves without the fear of rejection. Also state the qualities of ‘significant-others’ in life?

Prompt:

“All is well that ends well”.

Assignment:

Is the end of everything what really matters? Does the process itself has any impact over individuals or is only the end result really important?

Prompt:

“The education people receive does not occur primarily in school. Young people are formed by their experiences with parents, teachers, peers, and even strangers on the street, and by the sports teams they play for, the shopping malls they frequent, the songs they hear, and the shows they watch. Schools, while certainly important, constitute only a relatively small part of education.”
